The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The one-time leader was sentenced of planning a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in prison, but he remained under home detention pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information came to light.

This involved trying to remove his ankle monitor and a invitation to a public vigil that could facilitate a potential flight.
